A hidden, unmarked exit led us to this secluded stretch of beach—completely deserted. Though just a short detour from the highway, it felt worlds away. For a while, it was just us, the sand, and the sound of the waves.
We spent the night here—not in the place you see in the picture, but with this view right outside our guesthouse window!
While cruising down the highway, we passed countless unmarked exits that seemed to lead toward the glacier. One exit had a faint marking, just enough to spark our curiosity. We made a U-turn and followed it—and about half an hour later, it led us to this hidden lagoon.
It was raining when we got there. You could barely see the glacier in the background.
We got there pretty late, around 9 PM. A blessing in disguise! Had the waterfall to ourselves for some time.
In Icelandic, Jökull = Glacier.
Iceland is full of solitary structures standing proudly in the middle of nowhere—we saw them scattered across the landscape. This particular church, though, was nestled in the small village of Vík, adding its quiet charm to the already dramatic surroundings.
